Anne is my hero It has snowed again. Snow on top of ice, so the roads are super slippery. It's always fun to watch people try and get up the hill next to our house. Last night someone tried at least 8 times, each time backing down and around the corner to give it another try. He did eventually make it, but it looks like he had to drive on the sidewalk. My car made it up the hill first try, which is gratifying. Slow and steady, in 1st gear, seemed to do the trick. Life is good in the winter when you drive a standard. Not that I don't get stuck, it just seems to happen less often than people driving up the hill next to our house. I'm reading the Anne of Green Gables books again. I love reading them because the world always seems so much nicer while I'm immersed. Lucy Maud certainly had a way with words. And to think she hails from my own humble country. So nice to have things like that to feel superior about. Here are some good quotes, so you know what I mean: "Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we know all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?" "That is one good thing about this world. . .there are always sure to be more springs." "What a splendid day!... I pity people who aren't born yet for missing it. They may have good days, of course, but they can never have this one." "March came in that winter like the meekest and mildest of lambs, bringing days that were crisp and golden tingling, each followed by a frosty pink twilight which gradually lost itself in an elfland of moonshine." Ah, Anne...she makes me so happy! |
