One week down My office building is in downtown Calgary, close enough to walk to from home and right in the middle of a whole network of other office buildings. The +15 system is well used, (especially now because it's 4 degrees and really windy) and you can go for kilometers between buildings without ever going outside. I have my own office, with four walls and a door, but no window. I have a computer and a phone and a shelving unit with a closet behind it for my coat. I'm working with the Environment, Health and Safety team on the 9th floor and none of my direct supervisors have any GIS knowledge at all. The GIS team is on the 3rd floor and they've already taken an interest in my project and added it to their Gantt chart of corporate GIS projects. Actually, the GIS team is right in the middle of a big GIS educational push so I've been to an introductory seminar on using ArcMap and some of the available ArcIMS projects and I'm scheduled to attend weekly meetings to tell them how things are going and where I'm at. I got a new computer today, it's more powerful than the one I had before and has more RAM. Unfortunately, ArcGIS isn't installed on it and I have to wait for the IT people to get back to me and do the necessary installations. I suppose it's a good thing they had me working on the filing system or I wouldn't have had much to do today. Now I'm off home to go to a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy party and then to see the movie later. Good times. I submitted most of this to school as part of the reporting requirements for my practicum. I'm just too tired to come up with two original things in one day. |
