News: big and small My biggest and best news is that I'm finally being paid to do this job. Although finally isn't really the proper word since I didn't expect to be paid for the practicum. However you look at it, I'm making money now and that's a good thing. Not only that, but my job title is Environmental Adviser. I'm almost as excited about that title as I am about the money. Won't that look good on a resume? So, now that I'm an actual employee, I get some perks. Like my picture on my access card and my name in the phone system. Up until now, whenever I called someone in the building the name that showed up on their call display belonged to the dude whose office this was before I arrived. In lesser news, we've switched cars and are no longer driving the Lincoln. None too soon as far as I'm concerned. I managed to avoid ever driving that beast and I'm proud of it. But, although the Lincoln is on its way out, we haven't given up on owning old vehicles. This weekend "we" (and I use the term loosely) bought a '77 Ford 250. I suppose owning a truck is practical in some respects, but I think owning two vehicles is impractical in other respects. However, I'm being a supportive girlfriend and keeping my derogatory comments to a minimum. It was only $500 after all. So now I can drive myself places again and I'm really happy about that. I thought, when I was living in Burnaby, that it wasn't driving I missed as much as being mobile. Now, after being mobile for several weeks, I realize that just being mobile wasn't all I missed and that being able to take myself somewhere in a car is something I value quite highly. |
