Snow and Flying Turtles Well, yesterday it was fall...but today it's winter. We got 15 cm (about 6 inches) of snow overnight. And, to make things really interesting, it started snowing before everything got cold, so the snow melted on the road, made a layer of slush, and then froze. There's a sheet of ice on the roads in my neighbourhood thick enough to have pot holes in it. In other news, I was listening to my radio station CKUA and their annual fundraising campaign. It's a fun time of year because people from all over are pledging money and requesting crazy songs. Today, they played: "Will the Turtle Be Unbroken" by The Mrs Akroyd Band. If you know the old country song "Will the Circle be Unbroken" you'll understand why this is hysterically funny. The gist of the song is that he had a pet turtle (Myrtle) who was blown out of his 27th storey appartment. He rushes down the stairs to see if she's all right and it turns out she landed on the caretaker's head, killing him, and was saved. I came close to skidding off the road I was laughing so hard. CKUA has a website where you can listen "live on the internet" so you should check it out...they've always got interesting stuff playing. |
