Spring is sprung! The weather was nice this weekend, warmish spring weather, but windy. I went for a walk up on Nose Hill. It's beautiful up there, you can see the whole city. Soon the trees will start budding and the new spring plants will push up through the dead grasses of last year. There were already crocus flowers blooming here and there. In another week there will be whole fields of purple blossoms. Crocuses aren't as beautiful as some flowers, but I love them because they're such intrepid little things. Blooming before other plants have even started thinking about opening up. It must be because I look forward to spring for so long, four months in fact, that all the early signs make me happy. I also went on a jaunt through Prince's Island park to see the rare and majestic Canada Goose. Well, they're actually more of a nuicance than rare, and they're really only majestic while flying or swimming on a river in pairs. Actually, they're more of a pest than anything else. We decided that if the city paid two bucks for each goose head brought in, it would cut down on the goose problem and give the homeless people a source of income other than panhandling. And, they could keep the feathers to make warmer blankets. There's a couple of reasons the geese are such a problem. One, they're a tourist attraction so they have nothing keeping the population under control. Two, they love green grass and hang out at the golf courses in huge numbers. And golf courses, of course, are also tourist attractions. So, in conclusion, if we shoot the tourists, the goose problem will dissappear. Let's get started! |
