Equality over Sameness My sister left a message on my cellphone today, saying "Joe wants to know if you want to make an easy $100, call me and I'll tell you about it." So, intrigued, I call her. Turns out, Joe wants me to write one of his papers for him. The topic was "Equality of opportunity and it's place in today's society". I think it's an interesting topic, I've got lots to say about it, it only needs to be 1500 words. I considered it quite carefully until he said the reason he couldn't write it himself (being only 1500 words after all) was that he had absolutely no interest. No interest. I've written at least a dozen papers that held no interest for me. This is not an excuse that wins any sympathy from me, so I told him no. It's nice to know that, when all is said and done, I do have a spine, and I can say no. I've been doubting that for a while, but it seems my doubts were, somewhat, unfounded. Of course, now I'm thinking about equality of opportunity. I may end up writing the paper anyway. |
